DIY Solar Oven Tutorial

DIY your own Solar Oven to make some yummy S’mores.

A great excuse to talk your parents or kids into having a treat – because science! Harness the power of the sun on your next camping trip or your front stoop to cook up some sweet goodness.


You’ll Need:

  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate
  • Graham Crackers
  • Aluminum Foil Wrap
  • Clear Plastic Wrap
  • Scissors or Boxcutters
  • Cardboard Box (Ideally a Pizza Box or Cereal box)

Step-By-Step Instructions:

With a box-cutter (or other sharp thingy) Cut-out a flap from the top of your pizza box. Start at the bottom and go up the sides so you don’t accidentally cut the top.

Wrap your flap in aluminum foil. No. The backside (Top of closed pizza box) does not need to be wrapped.

Create an air-tight screen for the open “window” part of the top of your box. To make sure contain the heat the sun is creating.

Wrap the bottom of your oven with foil as well (KEEP THAT HEAT) and place your graham crackers n chocolate or just marshmallows open faced.

Bring the clear lid down to close your oven. Position your oven with top foil lid open outside somewhere were the sun is directly hitting it!
